At Sir John Nelthorpe School we aim to stimulate the curiosity and imagination of our pupils by providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. The activities and tasks set for pupils are matched to their abilities so that they can achieve their full potential and become valued citizens in this rapidly changing world.

The teaching and learning environment is welcoming and has at its heart a partnership between staff, pupils and parents, which aims to support effective learning, good order, discipline and mutual respect.

In our most recent full inspection report (May 2018), Ofsted said:

"Around the school, and in the vast majority of lessons, pupils are courteous, polite and respectful of others...... There is a strong culture of safeguarding in the school. Leaders and managers place a high priority on keeping learners safe..... Pupils are confident that they feel safe and that their concerns will be dealt with; parents and staff agree.... ...... ".

We pay attention to the individual by building on the positive qualities, providing opportunities which broaden horizons, developing a healthy set of values and stimulating a feeling of achievement and worth.

We are immensely proud of the year on year performance of our students. Students and staff at Sir John Nelthorpe School celebrated another successful year's GCSE and A level exam results this year (2017).

71.4% of students gained 5 A*-C grades (legacy grading) including English & Maths, with 48% of students achieving a grade 9-5 (A*- ‘strong’ C equivalent using new grading) in both English and Maths, one of the new key headline measures of performance known as the 'Basics'. This compares very favourably against the Local Authority and National averages of 39%. Staff and students have worked extremely hard and deserve their success. We are also particularly pleased that 29% of students gained the English Baccalaureate grade 9-5, The Ebacc is awarded to students gaining at least a grade 5 (strong grade C) in English, maths, two sciences a modern foreign language and a either geography or history. This Ebacc success ranks the School in the top 10% of the highest performing schools in England, including selective Grammar schools.

‘A’ level results were in line with 2015 results, with the ‘AS’ level pass rate (A* - E) increasing to 87%, a rise of 9% from 2015. 66% of our students gained A* - C at A level.

The wide range of extra-curricular activities and the enrichment opportunities available to our pupils are further strengths of this school, which, we believe complement our academic standards, helping our pupils to thrive and prosper both within the classroom and beyond.

Based on a four year average, our academic performance has placed us firmly in first place in the North Lincolnshire schools' GCSE performance league tables.

We are very proud of the achievements of this school, but we are not complacent. We continue to strive to be the very best we can be. The pupils and students at Sir John Nelthorpe School deserve no less.
