Form Groups

When pupils start at Sir John Nelthorpe School they are placed into form groups. Pupils spend up to 20 minutes a day within these groups, developing relationships with peers and their form tutor, the form groups are made up of only pupils from their academic year. It is the role of the Year 7 Learning Coordinator to create these groups, which is done with information gathered from primary schools and where possible we aim to ensure that there is at least one other pupil from the child's current primary school within the form group. Form groups are mixed ability groups which enable pupils to develop relationships with a wide range of peers who have a variety of different interests and values, these values and interests are explored through weekly PSHCE lessons which are initially delivered by their form tutor.

The role of the form tutor is key to support the pupil's wellbeing. As a daily contact they are in a good place to offer guidance and support or address any initial concerns. Form tutors are also the first point of contact for parents/carers regarding any concerns or worries. This can be done using the school planner, which tutors check weekly, or through contacting the admin team requesting a call back. Once the form tutor groups are finalised we will send you further information and introduce your child’s form tutor to you and your child.
