Emma Wells Chair of governors Emma is chair of Sir John Nelthorpe School’s governing body, a foundation governor and link governor for its Modern Foreign Languages faculty. She has served as a governor since 2007. Emma is involved in farming and riding for the disabled, after competing for many years in para dressage. | |
Alan Hall Vice-Chair of governors Alan is a co-opted governor, and is also the link governor for the Mathematics, Business, Computing & ICT faculty, and serves as the school’s link governor for local business. Alan worked as a professional engineer in the oil, gas and chemical industries and has been a governor for over 25 years. | |
Tom Nelthorpe Ex-officio foundation governor Tom is chair of the governing body’s School Development & Standards Committee, link governor for the Humanities faculty and PE department, and chair of the Sir John Nelthorpe School Foundation. He works as a financial journalist and forester, and is the 10-times great-nephew of the school’s founder. | |
Wendy Ellis Parent governor Wendy is chair of the governing body’s Finance and Human Resources (Including H&S and Estates) Committee, and link governor for the English & Performing Arts faculty. She works in the education sector, acting as assistant principal and finance director of a local Sixth Form College. She has also previously held the position of parent governor at a local primary school, and has been a member of the Sir John Nelthorpe school’s governing body since August 2018. | |
Rob Smith Co-opted governor Rob is a co-opted governor, and is the link governor for the Science faculty and for the pupil premium. Rob is a former chair of governors at Sir John Nelthorpe School and has also served as a governor and chair of governors at a local primary school. | |
Rod Wardlaw Co-opted governor Rod has served as a parent governor and is now a co-opted governor and link governor for Special Educational Needs. He has been a member of the school’s governing body for over 15 years and is proprietor of a local special needs school. | |
Sonya Thomas Co-opted governor Sonya has been a member of the school’s governing body since March 2016, and sits on its Finance and HR (Including H&S and Estates) Committee. She works in the social care sector and is the governing body’s lead for safeguarding | |
Brian Taylor Foundation governor Brian represents the Sir John Nelthorpe School foundation on the governing body, and is a former pupil at Brigg Grammar School, one of the schools that became Sir John Nelthorpe. He also serves on the committee of the Briggensians Association, which brings together former pupils at Sir John Nelthorpe, Brigg Grammar, Brigg Girls High School and Brigg Sixth Form. | |

Several members of Sir John Nelthorpe School’s governing body also serve as trustees of the Sir John Nelthorpe School Foundation. The foundation owns the land on which the school is located, provides limited financial support to the school, and appoints some of its governors, but is a separate institution.
