Key Opportunities Through The Transition Process
There are a number of opportunities that are calendared to support transition, although with the current situation with COVID-19 these opportunities maybe adapted as a result.
Initial Visits - The Learning Coordinator for Key Stage 3 (Mrs Cook) will visit prospective new pupils at their primary school to provide that initial opportunity to meet key staff and to ask any questions they may have.
New Intake Parents Evening - This will give an opportunity for pupils to get to know each other, their form tutor and registration room, a full information pack will be provided in advance of their September start. Parents are given other useful information and are able to meet with senior staff if they wish. School uniform and PE kit will also be available to buy during the evening from our suppliers "Uniform Direct”.
Induction Days - Pupils will be invited to spend two days that are carefully structured and supported to introduce each child to Sir John Nelthorpe School and how we work day-to-day. During these two days pupils will sample lessons, getting to know their way around school, having a lunch in the dining hall and experience travelling to school. Pupils will also spend the afternoon of their final day with their form tutor and their peers who will also be in this tutor group. An alternative day can be arranged by Mrs Featherstone our SENCo for any pupils identified as needing additional support to ensure the transition is successful.
