Year 10 Mock Interviews

Year 10 pupils had the opportunity to develop their employability skills by taking part in practice interviews with local volunteers. The event, designed to help pupils build confidence and prepare for the world of work, provided a valuable insight into the interview process and the expectations of employers. Each pupil took part in a one-to-one interview with a volunteer from the local community, many of whom have extensive professional experience in a range of industries. They were asked a variety of questions about their skills, ambitions, and experiences, helping them to practise articulating their strengths and career aspirations.

The volunteers were full of praise for the pupils, with one commenting, “I was really impressed with all of the pupils that I spoke with. Their confidence, enthusiasm for the task, teamwork examples provided, and hard work ethic shone through. None of them had taken part in an interview before, and their eagerness to learn from their experience was nothing short of inspiring as they absorbed every word of encouragement and feedback!”

Another volunteer highlighted the pupils’ professionalism, saying, “All of the students were polite and well turned out, respectful and engaged. They had some excellent goals and aspirations and knew their next educational steps into future employment in most cases. I was very impressed with the calibre.”

After the interviews, pupils received constructive feedback on their responses, body language, and overall presentation. This gave them the chance to reflect on their performance and identify areas for improvement before they begin applying for jobs, apprenticeships, or further education opportunities. The experience was highly beneficial, with many pupils commenting on how it helped them feel more prepared and confident about future interviews.
