It was a privilege to witness the official opening of the rugby pitch at school last week. As far as records show, and despite the school being older than the game of rugby itself, (the school was established in 1669, whereas rugby wasn't conceived, it is believed, until 1823 by William Webb Ellis, this is the first time official rugby posts have been installed at the school!
Our 6th form 'rugby team' played valiantly against very strong opposition from North Lindsey College in the inaugural match at the school. I was immensely proud of the team and the manner in which both sides conducted themselves both on and off the pitch. They were a credit to their establishments and true ambassadors for the game.
We have many younger students at the school who are keen to get involved in this wonderful sport and we are very grateful to Scunthorpe Rugby Club and the RFU for their assistance in supporting the development of our young boys and girls.
